Moroccan Mohamed El Talhui and Kenyan Glorious Jepkinui are the winners of the second ’10K Belgrade’ race, organized by the Belgrade Marathon under the sponsorship of the City of Belgrade and the company ‘NIKE’.
El Talhui completed the 10-kilometer course in New Belgrade in 28 minutes and 49 seconds, while Kenyan Glorious Jepkinui crossed the finish line with a new course record of 32 minutes and 13 seconds. Second place in the men’s category went to another Moroccan, Mohamed El Gazuani (28:53), and third place to Younes Knija from Spain (29:29). In the women’s category, Kenyan Valentine Jebet took second place (33:03), while third place went to Jemutai Ruto Daisy (33:28), also from Kenya.
As part of the collaboration between the Belgrade Marathon and the Serbian Athletics Federation, this race also served as the National Championship for the 10-kilometer distance. The men’s champion title was claimed by Nikola Mijailović with a time of 31:05, while Saima Murić triumphed in the women’s category, finishing the race with a time of 35:45.
“The ‘Belgrade Fast Ten’ was yet another celebration of running on the streets of our capital, featuring a significant number of elite competitors and over four thousand recreational runners from across the region.
Belgrade hosted yet another top-tier running event. We are especially proud of the fact that all events organized by the Belgrade Marathon are experiencing a rapid increase in participants. Compared to last year, the ‘Belgrade Fast Ten’ had a thousand more participants this time. Our races are growing in scale, and I am confident this reflects the quality of our organization, the unique experience all participants have on the course, and our care for all runners. We will continue to strive to raise the standards in the future, and with the hard work and effort we invest, I am sure that the running movement in Serbia will grow even larger, and our races will attract even more participants,” said Darko Habuš, director of the Belgrade Marathon.
It is important to note that the course at Ušće, where the ‘Belgrade Ten’ was held, is certified by World Athletics, meaning all results are recognized by this organization and will be included in the official calendar of world road races. This is yet another testament to the quality and high standards set by the Belgrade Marathon. Additionally, thanks to the ‘Heroes of the Belgrade Marathon’ Foundation, the race also had a humanitarian aspect. All those who wished to contribute could donate by sending an SMS with the word ‘heroes’ to 3023, with the funds going to support people with disabilities.
The next event organized by the Belgrade Marathon will be the traditional dm Women’s Race at Ada Ciganlija, scheduled for October 6.
