On the march to the record.

This year’s Comtrade Belgrade Marathon, which will take place for the 38th time on April 6th on the streets of our capital, will most likely be fully in the spirit of its slogan – Always More. What can already be said with certainty is that the largest running event in the entire region will once again break the record for the number of participants, as organizers have reported that more than 13,500 runners have registered so far.

Additionally, the competition among elite runners in both the half marathon and marathon races will be exceptionally strong, raising expectations for an attempt to break the course records.

“We have a significant number of highly skilled long-distance runners from Kenya and Ethiopia, most of whom have marathon times under two hours and 10 minutes. We have also secured excellent pacemakers for both the marathon and half marathon races, so we hope that this year we might see new Belgrade Marathon record holders,” said Marko Marinković from the Belgrade Marathon, adding:

“Much will depend on the weather conditions. It is also well known that the Belgrade Marathon is very challenging and often unpredictable, but as organizers, we have done our best to ensure the best possible conditions. Like last year, the race starts will be staggered, which has proven to be an excellent practice, and we have also provided an optimal number of refreshment stations.
I am confident that the runners will receive strong support from spectators as well. Last year, around 75,000 people lined the course to watch the races, and we hope that this time the number will be even higher, giving the competitors an extra boost to achieve their best times,” Marinković concluded.

The Belgrade Marathon record in the 42-kilometer race for men is held by Jafet Kosgei from Kenya, with a time of 2:10:54, set in 2006. In the women’s category, the record belongs to Cristina Pomacu from Romania, who ran 2:29:44 in 2001. Kenyans are the most successful nation in the Belgrade Marathon, having won the men’s race 19 times and securing nine victories in the women’s category.

The Belgrade Marathon organizers have emphasized that the number of participants is limited to 14,000. Registrations for the 10-kilometer race closed about ten days ago, and only a few spots remain for the half marathon and marathon. All interested runners are encouraged to secure their spot in time by registering through the official Belgrade Marathon website.
