Belgrade marathon in Osaka

The 23rd Congress of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) was held.

The two-day congress of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) titled “Creating the Running Future” was held in Osaka from February 23 to 25, 2023. The Belgrade Marathon, led by director Darko Habuš, had the honor of attending this event as a member of AIMS and exchanging experiences with directors of the world’s largest marathons. At the 23rd AIMS Congress, held again in Japan after 40 years, discussions focused on the post-COVID period and ways to cope with a reduced number of runners. The running future was also discussed, and four new members of the AIMS Board of Directors were elected: Mike Nishi (Chicago Marathon), Rena Nelis (Estonia), Rut Jiroajvanichakorn (Thailand), and Branislav Koniar (Slovakia).

“The new members of the AIMS Board of Directors were welcomed with great enthusiasm and a warm welcome. I wish them good luck in their future work and success in this new task, just as they are successful in organizing marathons in their countries. I expect a lot of new ideas and even better cooperation among world marathons from them, primarily in terms of continuous exchange of knowledge and experience, all with the aim of raising the quality of organization and participant satisfaction,” said Darko Habuš, director of the Belgrade Marathon.

The AIMS Congress preceded the Osaka Marathon, which is scheduled for tomorrow, February 26, 2023. With over 30,000 runners, including a large number of participants from abroad, and more than a million spectators gathered around the main tourist attractions through which the Osaka Marathon passes, it has become an event of great importance for the city of Osaka and its residents.
